Kashmiri cuisine includes dumaloo (boiled and heavily spiced potatoes), tzaman (a solid cottage cheese), rogan josh (lamb cooked in heavy spices), yakhiyn (lamb cooked in curd with mild spices), hakh (a spinach-like leaf), rista-gushtaba (minced meat balls in tomato and curd curry), and the signature rice which is particular to Asian cultures. The traditional wazwan feast involves cooking meat (usually mutton) or vegetables in several different ways. Alcohol is strictly prohibited in most places.

There are two styles of making tea in the region: Noon chai, or salt tea, is pink in colour and is popular with locals. Kahwah is a tea for festive occasions, made with saffron, spices and black tea.

Pahalgam - The Valley of Shepherds is situated on the Sheshnag Lake and the Lidder River. Pahalgam was once a humble shepherd's village with magnificent views. Now it is Kashmir's best resort.

Sonamarg- The Meadow of Gold. The drive to Sonamarg is via the spectacular Sindh Valley. Situated at an altitude of 2730m, Sonamarg has snow-white mountains against a sapphire sky. Here you can hire horses in order to see the Thajiwas glacier, which is a major local attraction during the summers.

Kashmir is also known for Dal Lake in Srinagar. It is a prime lake and second largest in the state, in Jammu & Kashmir. The Dal Lake is popularly known as the Jewel in the crown of Kashmir and Srinagar, and is important for the local economy because of the fish and water-plants it provides.

Visit to Dal Lake is a must-see while on tour to Srinagar. The boat ride will take your breath away. It is said that this is the most beautiful lake on the earth.
